Hammarby Sjöstad – Sjöstan to the people who live there – is the district on the south shore of Hammarby sjö, built on former harbour and industrial land from the late 1990s and now essentially complete: just over 20,000 residents in about 12,700 homes, the Tvärbanan light rail since 2002 and a free ferry across to Södermalm. Hammarby allé is the main street; Lugnets allé and Jan Inghes torg in Henriksdalshamnen are the other two stretches where the restaurants and shops sit.
